With the rise of the growth in the urban cities, both the new and the old, city political growth machines grew popular. Crimes and poverty increased which was in their favor! It was the perfect time to sweep in and to provide relief and promote urban growth. In contrast, it also earned a reputation for corruption. In the cities, the diversity of people varied which had an impact on politics. It was an era where women did not have the right to vote and African Americans were still being discriminated. The white wealthy males were the center of politics, and they ran the show. Unlike immigrants and women who had to fight for a say, white males had it handed to them. I do believe politics was an arena for the wealthy because at this time, equality was not settled. Women, minorities, and working men impacted the political process because even though it was the white rich man’s world, minorities were however majority. While at one time it may have been a smooth sailing, people started voicing opinions and that was the game changer.
