Brown Bag talk: Dr Laura Dull on “Telling her Story: Elizabeth Woodville and the Challenge of Writing Women’s History”

Elizabeth Woodville was one of the last medieval queens of England, and grandmother to the great Tudor queen Elizabeth I. She was the wife of Edward IV, a key figure in the bloody civil conflict known as the Wars of the Roses, and mother of the “Princes in the Tower’ who were (probably) murdered by her brother-in-law, Richard III. She appears in the plays of Shakespeare, is the lead character in the novel and TV series The White Queen, and is one of the inspirations for Game of Thrones’ Cersei Lannister.

Delta College history professor Dr Laura Dull will talk about this fascinating and controversial medieval queen, and about what the study of Elizabeth Woodville tells us about the challenge of writing women’s history.
